This Homemade Butter Chicken Recipe is a comforting dish that combines tender chicken in a creamy, spiced tomato sauce, perfect for family dinners.

1.5 lbs Chicken Thighs (bite-sized)
1/2 cup Plain Greek Yogurt
1 tbsp Lemon Juice
1 tbsp Garam Masala
1 tsp Turmeric Powder
3 tbsp Unsalted Butter
1.5 cups Tomato Puree (Passata)
1/2 cup Heavy Cream
1 tbsp Fresh Ginger (grated)
3 cloves Fresh Garlic (minced)
1 tsp Cumin Powder
1 tsp Sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Combine yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, and turmeric in a bowl. Add chicken and coat thoroughly. Marinate for at least 30 minutes
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, add oil, and sear chicken in batches until browned. Remove and set aside
- Melt butter in the same skillet, add garlic and ginger, and sauté for 1 minute. Stir in cumin and chili powder
- Pour in tomato puree and simmer for 10 minutes until thickened. Add chicken back to the pan and simmer for another 5-8 minutes
- Stir in heavy cream and simmer for 2 more minutes. Adjust seasoning and serve
Notes
For a dairy-free version, replace butter with oil and heavy cream with coconut milk.
You can use chicken breasts instead of thighs, but watch the cooking time to prevent drying out.
