Description

This crème brûlée French toast delivers everything you adore about classic French toast, elevated with a gorgeous caramelized sugar crust. The combination of rich custard-soaked bread with a caramelized sugar topping makes everyone feel like they are dining at a five-star brunch spot.

Ingredients

Scale

8 slices Thick-sliced bread (brioche or challah)
4 Large eggs
1 cup Heavy cream
1/2 cup Whole milk
1/4 cup Granulated sugar (for custard)
2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon Ground cinnamo
1/4 teaspoon Salt
4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
1/2 cup Brown sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a large shallow bowl until completely smooth
  2. Step 2: Arrange bread slices in a large baking dish and pour the custard mixture over the bread. Let each slice soak for about 3-4 minutes per side
  3. Step 3: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add one tablespoon of butter
  4. Step 4: Place 2-3 soaked bread slices in the hot skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brow
  5. Step 5: Transfer cooked slices to a baking sheet and keep warm in a 200°F oven while finishing cooking
  6. Step 6: Preheat the broiler and sprinkle brown sugar evenly over each slice of French toast
  7. Step 7: Place the baking sheet under the broiler and watch carefully as the sugar caramelizes in 1-2 minutes
  8. Step 8: Let the crème brûlée French toast cool for about one minute before serving

Notes

Use thick-cut bread for best results.

Don't rush the soaking process; ensure the bread absorbs the custard without falling apart.

Watch the broiler closely to prevent burning.
