Description

These crab stuffed cheddar biscuits are golden, flaky, and filled with sweet crab and sharp cheddar, making them an impressive yet easy appetizer for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups All-purpose flour
1 tablespoon Baking powder
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/2 cup Cold unsalted butter (cubed)
1 1/2 cups Sharp cheddar cheese (shredded), divided
3/4 cup Whole milk
8 ounces Lump crab meat (picked over)
4 ounces Cream cheese (softened)
2 tablespoons Green onions (minced)
1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
1/4 teaspoon Garlic powder
1 teaspoon Fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  2. Prepare the crab filling by mixing cream cheese, half the crab meat, green onions, Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, and lemon juice in a bowl
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
  4. Stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar and then add the milk, mixing until just combined
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out rounds with a biscuit cutter
  6. Place half the biscuit rounds on the baking sheet, spoon crab filling onto each, and top with another biscuit round. Seal the edges
  7. Brush the tops with milk or melted butter and sprinkle with remaining cheddar
  8. Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown and puffed. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving

Notes

For mini versions, use a smaller cutter and reduce baking time by 3-4 minutes.

You can freeze unbaked biscuits and bake them directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
