Ingredients
1 pound Ground beef (80/20 blend)
½ cup Italian breadcrumbs
¼ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
1 Large egg
1 teaspoon Garlic powder
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups Marinara sauce
4 Hoagie rolls
1½ cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
Fresh basil (optional) for garnish
Instructions
- Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Mix gently until just combined
- Form the mixture into 12-16 evenly-sized meatballs, roughly 1½ inches in diameter
- Preheat your air fryer to 380°F for about 3 minutes
- Arrange meatballs in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between each one
- Air fry the meatballs for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through
- While meatballs cook, warm your marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat
- Once meatballs finish cooking, toss them gently in the warm marinara sauce
- Split your hoagie rolls and place 3-4 meatballs in each roll. Spoon extra sauce over the top
- Sprinkle generous amounts of mozzarella cheese over the meatballs
- Return the assembled subs to the air fryer for 2-3 minutes at 350°F until the cheese melts and the bread toasts lightly
Notes
For a leaner option, swap ground beef for ground turkey or chicken.
Use gluten-free breadcrumbs and rolls for a gluten-free version.
Make a double batch of meatballs and freeze extras for quicker meals later.
