Description

This 30 minutes chicken sausage orzo brings together tender pasta, savory sausage, and vibrant vegetables in one pot, creating a comforting meal that is simple, hearty, and made with love.

Ingredients

Scale

12 oz Chicken sausage, sliced
1½ cups Orzo pasta
2 tablespoons Olive oil
1 medium Yellow onion, diced
3 cloves Garlic, minced
1 cup Cherry tomatoes, halved
3 cups Baby spinach
3 cups Chicken broth
½ cup Heavy cream
½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper, to taste
¼ teaspoon Red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Heat the olive oil in a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook for about 4-5 minutes until nicely browned on both sides. Remove the sausage from the pan and set it aside on a plate
  2. Step 2: In the same pan, add the diced onion. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until it becomes translucent and fragrant. Then add the minced garlic and cook for another minute, stirring constantly
  3. Step 3: Add the orzo pasta directly to the pan with the onions and garlic. Toast the orzo for about 2 minutes, stirring frequently
  4. Step 4: Pour in the chicken broth and add the Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine everything. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Let it simmer for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally
  5. Step 5: Return the browned chicken sausage to the pan along with the cherry tomatoes. Stir everything together and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the tomatoes begin to softe
  6. Step 6: Pour in the heavy cream and add the baby spinach. Stir until the spinach wilts completely
  7. Step 7: Remove the pan from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed

Notes

For a lighter version, reduce the cream to ¼ cup or eliminate it entirely.

If you want extra richness, add a tablespoon of butter at the end.
